Once again we have Neatorama to thank for finding us the latest cultural geek-o-vation. This one comes from Sillof’s Workshop, an online custom figurines shop. Inspired by Migola and Augustyn’s Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Sillof’s cooked up an entire Victorian-era Justice League. More pictures, and commentary, in the extended post below.
Period Heroes
Gotta love ’em. It’s always great to see the familiar re-worked into something different, yet familiar. The Victorian Era seems to be gaining steam (heh, heh) as being the favored period for re-imagining. Looking at these figures makes it easy to see why. It just works.
My Favorites
Don’t make me pick one. I can’t. It’s like choosing between children. That being said, I particularly love the J’onn J’onzz. I can just see Brisco County, Jr. or some Burroughs character (not John Carter, that would be too obvious) running into him in act one. I especially like replacing the traditional red "X" with a red vest.
And look at this Aquaman! Perfect example of incorporating Steam-Punk elements into the concept. Aquaman actually looks cool for once (let the flame wars begin!).
Least Favorite
Wonder Woman
It was hard for me to put my finger on it at first, but then I realized what it was. The skirt. I have a real heard time with Diana in a skirt. It’s one thing if she’s pretending to be WAC Diana Prince. It’s another when she’s bearing the eagle on her torso. When she’s the Amazon of Themascyra, she should be in pants. Preferrably pantaloons or something. Heck Hawkgirl got to wear pants!
