Strap on your Google goggles

Geek Culture

Img_7658Img_7658 Lower your goggles into flight position.  Google is about to take you around the world again, the new release of Google Earth features a simple flight sim.  After installing the updated version, you can fly either a Cirrus   or an F-16 Viper.  Very limited choices compared to Microsoft’s version, but the imagery is compelling.

The family is  out  for the afternoon so I had a few minutes to fly over a few selected locations with keyboard controls only.  I’ll take time later to hook up the joystick with the boys.

The Cirrus cockpit photo is from a family trip to the Cook, MN Air show last summer. Small town airshows are great!

Update (in the duh category) "Maybe one should mention that this is a hidden feature. Press [option/control]+alt+A to access it."  thanks Henning!  This didn’t work for me the first time I tried it (XP) but was fine after closing and restarting Google Earth.
