"What’s that noise, Daddy?"

"Some kind of cricket."

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to give a more specific answer? Because you know the next question is going to be "What kind of cricket?". Fortunately for those of us without entomology degrees, Songs of Insects provides

a field guide to 77 different chirps, trills, buzzes and clicks. Their site is really nicely put together, allowing you to browse the songs by group, see the whole master list, learn 20 of the most common songs, or learn the lingo of insect song. Hey, if you can’t be an expert, at least you can sound like one!
