Free Art Exhibit in Chapel Hill: For Kids, By a Kid

Places

tristan meadtristan meadThis Friday evening, Chapel Hill Comics hosts Giants and Dragons, a great kid-friendly art show highlighting the work of Tristan Mead. Sure, there are lots of museums around the Triangle area of North Carolina to take your geeklets, but I don’t think any of them can boast original artwork by an 11-year old.

Tristan Mead is a familiar face to the Chapel Hill Comics store. His art has been exhibited twice before during the store’s annual Kids’ Art Show. Children will love his stuff. Depicting giants and dragon and strange mythological beings, the drawings are vibrant and massive and have a great multi-colored stained-glass thing going on. Your kids will want to reach out and touch the pieces. Or, if they’re like my 8-month old, eat them.

Best of all, I think, is the chance here to show your young artists-in-training that you don’t need to be a grown-up to get your paintings off of the refrigerator and into a gallery.

Giants and Dragons: the Art of Tristan Mead will open this Friday, May 11, and run until June 8th. There is a reception from 6pm until 9pm on the opening day, and Tristan will be there. The store will provide snacks, and they’ve got a nice assortment of pocky and other fun Japanese snack foods available.
