We’ve managed to find a series of science, history and technology books that are a hit with everyone, from the six year old to the nine year old to me. It’s the "100 Things You Should Know about [X]" line, where X includes:

Science
Inventions (shown)
The Human Body
Space
Arms and Armor
Insects and Spiders
Planet Earth
Reptiles and Amphibians
Oceans
Mammals
Explorers
Sharks
Weather
Penguins
Mummies
World Wonders
Whales and Dolphins
Birds
Horses
Elephants
Deadly Creatures
Big Cats
Dogs and Puppies
and of course Dinosaurs

I think there are about 60 of them and each one we’ve read is delightful. Loads of fun facts, jokes, little margin-cartoons and kids-sized nuggets of information, all wrapped around gorgeous drawing and cross-sections (see above).

This week we’re going to read "100…Science" and "100…Inventions" on a drive down to San Diego. Everyone’s very excited. I wish I’d had such cool books when I was a kid.
