Blogging Animal Crossing

Geek Culture

I’ve played my fare share of Animal Crossing on the Gamecube and DS, and whiled away many evenings collection, crimping and pimping my island. I’ve even been known to set an alarm to get up in the middle of the night to catch those bugs and butterflies that only come out in the wee hours (the game uses a real time clock – ingenious).

I thought I was up there with the Animal Crossing Geeks of the world – that was until I met a fellow writer on Game People site – Clare Swindlehurst. She has literally played through every inch of every edition of the game. Perfecting her Happy Room Academy score, completing the Museum collections and acquiring every collectible the game had to offer – fruit, furniture, fish, bugs, butterflies and outfits.

And now – with the release of Animal Crossing: City Folk on the Wii – she’s at it again. But ingeniously, this time she is writing an Animal Crossing Wii blog for each week of the game. So I (we) get to join in her discoveries. So far my favourite little tip is the fact that over time your back and forth journies slowly make ‘sheep path’ tracks around your island. I’m looking forward to see what she discovers next – in fact it is becoming increasingly difficult to not play the game myself. Goodbye life!
