Calling All Science Fiction Fantasy Fans

Books Entertainment Geek Culture

This coming weekend (October 16th-18th) brings Gollanczfest 2015, a science fiction fantasy festival run by one of Britain’s foremost SFF publishing imprints, Gollancz.

Most of the events for the festival weekend are fully booked and probably a little too far for the majority of our readers to travel, but, this being the modern world, much of the festival is being taken to social media. #GOLLANCZFEST2015 will be “virtually everywhere,” appearing across nine social media platforms.

You’ll be able to (Google) hangout with Scott Lynch and Elizabeth Bear, ask veteran author Michael Moorcock anything on Reddit, and Charlaine Harris will be doing a Good Reads Q&A. All this will be backed up by a host of other Gollancz authors, and there will be quizzes, discussions, and, judging from the promotional video, a fair amount of silliness.

Personally, I’m looking forward to hearing authors’ rebuttals to their harshest critics during the #ONESTARREVIEWS section, and the culmination of the digital event is a tantalising prospect for anybody interested in the process of writing–writing tips from science fiction legend Ursula K. Le Guin.

The event looks like it will be great fun and fascinating for all fans of fantasy and science fiction literature, whatever their time zone.
