I mentioned back around PAX that the first expansion for the unweildly-named, yet very entertaining Magic: The Gathering Arena of the Planeswalkers was going to be getting its first expansion next year, Battle for Zendikar. It turns out, not only are we getting new, multi-color planeswalkers and new summons; we’re going to be getting an epic boss battle, a whole new mechanic for the game!

Prepare your planeswalkers for conflict using the expansion pack’s included battlefield scenario as one player takes command of the world-eating over-sized Eldrazi Ruiner figure, while the other players choose Planeswalkers, working together to stop the monster’s path of destruction.

What’s cooler is that, once you’ve finished giving ol’ Eldrazi a run for his money, you can add the colorless creature to your summon pool (for those “custom armies” mentioned in the original rulebook). I’m guessing he costs a whoooole lot of points, so don’t plan on adding too many (or any) other summons if you’re making a custom army with the Eldrazi Ruiner.

It doesn’t sound like we’re getting new terrain with this expansion, so keep your fingers crossed for more announcements as NYCC hits this weekend. While you wait, here are the full details of the Eldrazi Ruiner!

Ready to add him to your armies? Pre-order the Battle for Zendikar expansion on Amazon today (it’s currently slated to ship in January of 2016). I’ll have a hands-on rundown closer to release!
