I’ve had my eye on Megan Lee’s scientist art for quite some time. It’s the perfect mixture of simplicity, unity, and graphics, all with science history as the underlying theme. Most of the scientists she has profiled in art are at least somewhat known if not very well known. But for a few, I actually had to research who they were and what they have done. Self-education FTW. Ms. Lee has also done art that profiles the planets in our solar system, scientific quotations, and other nerdy stuff, like books, sugar, and caffeine (in a style reminiscent of the WPA posters of the 1930s).

Megan Lee has also put her work up for sale in her Etsy store, in the form of posters, greeting cards, notebooks, t-shirts, magnets, various other media, and, now, flashcards.

If it’s not enough to have scientist art on your wall, your fridge, or your person, now you can quiz yourself and others on facts about 50 different scientists with the Rock Star Scientist Flashcards. One side of each card has the artwork for that scientist, created by Ms. Lee, and the other side gives a brief run down of who the scientist was/is, what they are best known for, and various facts about them or their discovery/invention.

Though the cards are quite educational and will give anyone a fun introduction to the work of 50 important scientists, the beautiful artwork on the front is what endures for me. Ms. Lee has excelled at distilling someone’s scientific work into an image, a symbol, or a diagram, combining it with their name and birth year, and turning it into a piece of art. These images are beautiful, and will help people remember names and scientific discoveries and inventions, just because they are now together in one piece of art.

These Rock Star Scientist Flashcards are pretty large, measuring in at 3.5″ x 5.75″, and are printed on 100% plastic waterproof and extremely durable cardstock. They are perfect for working into your homeschooling or your general family education. Scientists in the pack include some of my favorites, such as Richard Feynman, Rosalind Franklin, Galileo Galilei, Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek, Ada Lovelace, Benoit Mandelbrot, Alan Turing, Jonas Salk, and more. Check out Ms. Lee’s website for the full listing. From Fibonacci, born in 1170, to Neil Degrasse Tyson, born in 1958, this deck of flashcards runs us through quite the tour of the history of science.

While you’re at her Etsy store, check out Megan Lee’s other available art. There is a subject and a price point for every interest and budget, and she also does custom orders. One of my favorite options is the Pick Your Own Print Set, which allows you to pick among any of her works in different sizes and quantities. This option is perfect for decorating a nursery or office!
