After the phenomenal success of its inaugural show last year, the Brick Lego convention is returning to London’s Excel. Over the weekend of 11th-13th December, Brick2015 is hoping to build on last year’s event with yet more brilliant attractions that pay homage to everybody’s favorite plastic building blocks.
Last year nearly 50,000 people turned up to enjoy live Lego builds, Brick Pits with over 2 million Lego pieces, and a world record breaking Minecraft diorama. This year the organisers are promising all this, and more.
The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be literally days away and Brick2015 will be a hotbed of anticipation and Star Wars Lego builds. There promises to be a strong presence of Lego video games, and I for one am looking forward to taking a proper look at Lego Dimensions, before Santa Claus (hopefully) delivers it a few weeks later. For Dimensions fans, there should also be a first look at some new characters that are going to be brought to the game.
With Christmas just around the corner, one can expect many festive themed exhibits. There will be a Christmas brick pit where white lego and red-noses will be in abundance. Visitors will be able to leave messages for their fellow Lego builders at the Brick Wall. Once again there will be a huge Lego mosaic, that visitors can help by build by each putting together a tile. What will this year’s picture be?
In Brick Lane it will be possible to create your very own Lego Minifigure, while at the Race Ramps visitors can test their wheeled creations in a fast and furious battle of Lego cars.
I personally am looking forward to the Brick Flicks, Lego recreations of iconic film scenes, so here’s hoping for a Dread Pirate Roberts minifig. There will also be a museum of Lego history, recreations of the Seven Wonders of the World, possibly with lengthy discussions of what the Seven Wonders of the World actually are, and, wonderful for map-lovers like me, a Lego recreation of the British Isles.
There will be numerous stores and exhibits, including one from the Mechabrick team. I signed up to the Kickstarter for this intriguing Lego based game some time ago, and, after encountering several unforeseen issues on the way, the finished product is almost ready to go. I should have taken receipt of my game by the time Brick2015 comes around, and it will be great to meet the team and find out what they have coming up next.
The event is open from 3pm (until 8pm) on Friday 11th December, when tickets are priced at £20.00. On Saturday (10am-7pm) and Sunday (10am-5pm) tickets are £22.00. VIP passes are available that allow access for the whole three days. Early entry on the Friday, a goody bag, and access to the VIP area. VIP tickets cost £69.00. These prices do not include the small but not insignificant booking fee, which is added to all types of ticket. Tickets can be purchased from the BRICK2015 website.
Don’t forget, if London is too far or the event is too close for Christmas for you, Brick2015 also has a sister show in Birmingham Starting on October 29th and running to November 1st. That’s a whole extra day and the perfect way to end half term.
