“Stand Up and Tell ‘Em What a Girl Is Good For”

Yesterday’s Google Doodle celebrates the 151st birthday of Elizabeth Cochrane Seaman, better known to the public as Nellie Bly. Bly most famously traveled around the world in 72 days, and even lived in an insane asylum–for the sake of investigative journalism. She advocated for women in journalism, ran her own steel business, and accurately predicted women’s suffrage would eventually come to pass. We honor her memory and encourage all aspiring writers to learn more about this amazing pioneer!
