Marvel Collectors Corp Unboxing – Box 1: ‘Age of Ultron’

Comic Books Entertainment Featured Toys

By now, you’ve likely heard about Marvel and Funko’s bi-monthly subscription box team-up, Marvel Collector Corps. Similar to other subscription boxes, you plunk down a set amount ($25 + S&H, in this case) and get items in return that are aggregately valued at a greater value. What’s nice is that Funko and Marvel have gone out of their way to assure subscribers that the items they get from the MCC are exclusive and will only be available through the box. So you’re not going to be wandering through Hot Topic in a couple of months, only to see your “exclusive” on sale for $.99.

(null)Unsurprisingly, Box 1 is all about the Avengers. (If you were wondering how others will be themed, Box 2 is Ant-Man, so look to the Marvel movie schedule for clues.) From the start, you know exactly what you’re in for–the box is not, as they say, “subtle.”

MCC Unboxing 2Upon opening the box, you get your first goodies–a MCC pin and an Ultron patch awesome enough that I’m dying to find anything to sew it onto. Are jean jackets cool again? Has that trend rolled back around?

MCC Unboxing 3Once you open the inner box, you’re treated right away to the main event. I’m a big fan of the Iron Man Hulkbuster armor. So once I heard that this is the only way to get the Funko Pop! Hulkbuster bobblehead, they had me hooked. Was it worth it? It’s a glossy-painted, bobble-headed, um… marvel. The detailing is fantastic, the paint is crisp, and the sculpt is phenomenal. The bobblehead alone is worth $25.

MCC Unboxing 4But that’s not all your subscription gets you! You get one of four Avengers vs. Ultron shirts (you can see all four designs in the official unboxing video below), a variant-cover Avengers (which has a really fun team-up with the Guardians of the Galaxy with a nice holler-back to the original Avengers movie), and an exclusive Funko Dorbz, Ultron himself. (I recycled his packaging ASAP so as not to be tempted by all the other Dorbz.)

If you’re a Marvel fan or an Avengers fan, you’ll be more than happy with Box 1. Based on what I got the first time around, I can’t wait to see what they do for future boxes. My only complaint is that it’s not a monthly subscription! Hit up the official unboxing video below for all the spoilers.
