Marvel Announces Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and More at Marvel Studios Event

Comic Books Entertainment Movies

InfinityWarMarvel Studios hosted a Mystery Event on October 28 and dropped a ton of details on the next phase of the Marvel movie universe.

First up, it was confirmed that 2016’s Captain American movie will indeed be Captain America: Civil War (Feige at first teased the title as Serpent Society, which would have been a DEEP dive into the Marvel library, even for the movie universe). This will be the movie that kicks off Phase 3.

With the Phase 3 bandaid ripped off, they quickly confirmed the Dr. Strange movie (also for 2016); but, very conspicuously, did not mention Benedict Cumberbatch, who was the focus of yesterday’s “leaked” casting news.

Much more interesting than the new Guardians of the Galaxy 2 release date (May 2017, moved up from July), were the announcements of two of the biggest fan-requested movies since the Marvel movie universe was established.

BPBlack Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman, will be getting his own movie in the Fall of 2017 and will appear in Civil War.

Black is the new black.
Black is the new black.

And here’s where things get really interesting. Civil War is, ostensibly, the last movie we’re going to see “original-flavored” movie Cap. So any characters that carry over from that flick into the 2018 Avengers: Infinity War are prime targets to act as tentpoles for the MU phases going forward from 2018. What’s even more interesting is that we finally get Carol Danvers on the big screen in a Captain Marvel movie, just two months after the fourth Avengers movie. How much you want to bet that she and T’challa will feature heavily in Part 2 of Infinity War in 2019?CapMarvel

Pile on the Thor: Ragnarok (July 2017) and Inhumans (November 2018) announcements and it’s starting to look like the Marvel movie faithful will need to take out personal loans to fund all the tickets!

An archived session of the Marvel event can be found on their website. It’s got all the official logos and even more tidbits.
