Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 3rd!

This Saturday is one of my favorite days of the year: Free Comic Book Day. It’s a day visit you local comic book store and commune with fellow geeks in an informal atmosphere. Plus, FREE COMICS!

Events are taking place over 2,000 participating comic book specialty shops across the US, Canada and worldwide. Store owners will be giving away over 4.6 million comics to kids and adults who come to their comic shops. Titles include Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, DC’s The New 52: Futures EndSpongebob, Archie, Hello Kitty, Power Rangers, Transformers vs. G.I. Joe and more that are great for readers of all ages.

In addition to handing out free comics, comic shops will hold special events such as costume contests, store-wide sales, raffles, creator and artist signings, pictures with costumed heroes and more for community involvement.

Unfortunately, this year, I will not be able to participate in this years festivities. I’ll be recovering from brain surgery — I’m writing this a few days in advance — but my kids have instructions to stop by our local comic book store, The Laughing Ogre, and pick up a few freebies to bring daddy in the hospital.

I’d love to see your stories here, though, when I get out of the hospital.

Use the FCBD Store Locator to find a participating comic book shop in your area http://www.freecomicbookday.com/storelocator.

  1. Best of luck with your surgery. If you haven’t already, join the acoustic neuroma facebook group. I don’t have an AN, but a hypoglossal neuroma which I’ve been monitoring for 15 years now.

My kids and I are looking forward to Saturday. I love how this has become a big event each year.
