The Jack Vasel Memorial Fund was started by Tom Vasel of the Dice Tower, and is named after Vasel’s son who passed away just a few months after being born prematurely. Many board gamers supported the Vasels by making donations to pay for medical expenses, and Vasel started this fund to help other gamers in need. One of the big fundraising events is the annual auction on BoardGameGeek. This is the third year of the auction, which started up last Wednesday and will run until November 25.
Like last year, there are a whole bunch of board games (including many newly-released or not-yet-released Kickstarter-funded projects), but there’s a lot of other stuff as well. One donor is providing transportation around Indy during Gen Con 2014; another has provided a meeple-shaped cookie cutter. Since the list is so long, you can use the “Hide All Comments” link (just below the introductory note) to see the items only. There’s also the “Titles Only” link, but since many of the non-game items are listed as a game title, it’s best to see the actual entries.
If you’re not interested in buying anything but you do have games you’d like to donate, that helps, too! Just follow the directions at the top of the auction list (you’ll need a BoardGameGeek account to bid or sell). I’m a little late to the auction this year but I may try to add a few things if I can get organized in time. Last year I was able to contribute many of the demo and prototype copies of games I got for Kickstarter projects.
