A Short Review Of Pacific Rim

I know some of the reviews of Pacific Rim have criticized Guillermo del Toro’s lastest blockbuster, but they are wrong. And also a lot too critical. I don’t know what they expected, but let’s consider that it is essentially Godzilla vs Transformers. It can’t be too serious, deep, or meaningful, but can most definitely be fun and exciting and that is exactly what it does, very well.

As a kid I loved the Kaiju movies of the 50s and 60s and the Mecha anime and cartoons of the 70s and 80s. Del Toro has blended those two genres together artfully with some amazing designs, plenty of action, and just enough character development to make you care.

There are a plenty of things wrong with this movie, especially with the science, but it holds true to its roots and delivers a fun, action filled, and stunningly beautiful cinematic experience. I recommend that you turn your inner 12-year-old loose in the theater for this film and really enjoy it.
