With the release of Man of Steel has come the release of what seems like zillions of Superman toys. I received two review samples, one for kids, one for adults, and decided to test them out to answer one question:
How well does Superman fly?
First up: Man of Steel Movie Quick Shots Ultrahero Superman.
As you can see, plastic Zod flings Superman nicely. Warning for parents: this is definitely a projectile toy, so plan accordingly, and it’s marked for ages 4 and up. We tested Superman numerous times and he suffered no damage, so the material is sturdy and should last as long as your child (or you) wants to fling him. A good value for $9.99. Careful of knick-knacks, however.
Now, the adult figurine with the title that’s a mouthful: the Superman Man of Steel Movie Masters Superman Action Figure.
Yes, (horrors!), I took him out of the box and set him up. He looks quite a bit like Henry Cavill in Man of Steel, and his arms and legs are articulated. This Superman is very flexible. But can he simulate flying?
Not so much, given this Superman can’t even straighten his arms. But given he’s a display item for adults, it won’t matter, unless you really want to emulate me and take him out of the box. At $15.99, it might be worth ruining the collector’s value, especially as he looks good standing on the Superman shield.
There are also movie masters versions of General Zod, Faora, and Jor-el.
Alas, no Lois Lane in sight.
For a Lois Lane toy, you’ll have to go to LEGO, which is never a bad thing anyway.
