New Elysium Trailer

Here’s official trailer numero two for Elysium. Yep, this looks sweet.

The nerd world has been waiting for the next film by director/writer Neill Blomkamp (District 9), and that film arrives August 9: Elysium. Starring power duo Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, Elysium takes place on a ruined Earth and a man-made space station called Elysium. The year is 2154 and the very wealthy live on Elysium, while the suckers are stuck on an ruined, wrecked, overpopulated, crime-ridden, poverty-stricken Planet Earth.

Earthlings want to escape the planet, and need the medical care available on Elysium. Guess what? Damon’s character, an ordinary citizen, is especially desperate for medical care, and must face Elysium’s head honcho Foster.

And, based on the footage in the trailer, it looks like the Damon character gets all Bionic Man on us. Lots of dirty tech here, and Mad Max-like souped-up dune buggies, and space ships, and funny jokes about A.I.

In Elysium, we can expect the same social and political critique of such issues as immigration, health care, race and class, just as we saw in District 9. Can’t wait.
