Eugene Ahn is allergic to Kickstarter.

Okay, that might not be true in the strictest sense, but the rapper (otherwise known as Adam WarRock) doesn’t necessarily believe that the ubiquitous crowdsource funding platform is the best way to galvanize one’s audience. Instead WarRock dedicates a single week per year for his own special donation drive.

During that time fans are encouraged to donate any amount to help this lawyer-turned-full-time-hip-hopper keep his artistic dream alive. In exchange you’re rewarded with a boatload of amazing exclusives – this year’s haul includes a new mixtape, a live concert video and a digital comics bundle – not to mention Euge’s pledge to continue to provide amazingly awesome free tracks via his web site for the next 51 weeks. Not a bad deal, eh?

With that in mind, GeekDad is proud to present an exclusive clip from the aforementioned Speech Recognition mixtape. It’s for the track “Jet Packs,” which is an immediately enjoyable musical meditation on futurism and family. Oh, and there’s also a sly Jonathan Coulton reference in there that I know y’all will enjoy!

  1. I love Adam WarRock! Ok, I’m a little biased since he once wrote a song for/about my son, but still. I think I’d be a huge fan anyways. The new mixtape is great – I really like the one that samples “Same Love”. He tells a little bit of the story behind that one during the concert video.
