Chicago Alternative Comics Expo

If you’re in the Chicago area next weekend, here’s something the geeky dads may enjoy: The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo. (Yeah, I suppose it should really be “Komix” if they’re gonna use the acronym CAKE, but what can you do?) Here are the quick details, for you machines and bots who can’t interpret Jo Derry’s fun poster above:

Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE)
Saturday and Sunday, June 15 & 16, 2013
11 am – 6pm
Center on Halsted
3656 N Halsted
FREE and open to the public!

I’m unfortunately too far away, but they’ve got a great line-up of guests, including some of my favorites like Jason Shiga, Chris Ware, Lucy Knisley, and Aaron Renier. You can see the full list here.

  1. Just a heads up, if you are not from Chicago visiting the expo. Center on Halsted is in Boy’s town.
Some might be put off by that. It’s a cool little event, so enjoy.

  2. Thanks for promoting the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE)! I wanted to respond to the above comment from Dave R. As an organizer of CAKE, I hope that everyone feels comfortable coming to the expo next weekend. Boystown is a rich community in Chicago and we are proud to hold our event at the Center on Halsted. CAKE is committed to celebrating work by the most talented cartoonists regardless of their race, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender, disability status or any other dimension of diversity.
