I have to admit a great admiration for the hobby of papercraft, that pursuit that’s part origami, part model building. Some of the creations seen on the Web are truly spectacular, so much so that on an occasion or two, I’ve decided to try my hand at putting one together. Suffice to say, I lack the delicate touch to add papercraft to my stable of hobbies.
However, for beginners and people like me, there’s an alternative. Star Wars: Mega Models from DK Publishing delivers Star Wars themed paper models in a way that practically anyone can look like a pro. There are four models in the book: a TIE fighter, Boba Fett’s helmet, a full model of Yoda, and Anakin’s lightsaber. Each comes with easy-to-understand instructions and each can be completed well within an hour.
Every single model is perforated perfectly, so each piece pops off the page without a fear of tearing Yoda’s ears or Boba Fett’s rangefinder. What’s more, pieces are scored nicely so your final model looks more like the professionally built replica on the cover of the book than a papercraft disaster. On a recent rainy afternoon, I built all four and was very happy with the outcome of each.
Star Wars: Mega Models is recommended for ages 7-12, though adults may have just as much, if not more, fun putting these models together.
