An Early Look at Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

Geek Culture

I took a short trip into Dallas on Sunday to check out BotCon 2012, the Transformers Collector’s Convention. The convention was cool and interesting, but the thing I wanted to see most was Activision’s Transformers: Fall of Cybertron booth.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a third person shooter slated for release at the end of August. It is being produced by High Moon Studios, the same people that brought us the highest rated Transformers game yet, War for Cybertron. Matt Tieger, Game Director at High Moon Studios was on hand to walk us through some actual game play. The game isn’t finished yet, but the engine (Unreal), models, and game mechanics are fleshed out well enough for at least 3 playable levels.

One of the things that Matt emphasized is that transforming is a key element in the game play. One of the demos showed Vortex flying into battle, guns blazing, then dropping down into robot form for some hand-to-hand melee. Another demo shows Vortex and the rest of the Combaticons joining together to form Bruticus, a gigantic powerful machine of destruction.

Watch the video to see some Grimlock game play footage as Matt Tieger explains why he thinks Grimlock is the best character in the game.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is available for pre-order on Amazon for $60.
