The International Space Apps ChallengeThe International Space Apps Challenge

Do you look at different aspects of space exploration and think that you would love to contribute some of your know-how to the effort? Want to work with your geeklings on a cool project? There is something happening this weekend that gives you the chance to do both!

Fellow GeekDad contributor Tim Bailey has already introduced you to the International Space Apps Challenge but the time for the event has come! This weekend, people of all ages from around the world will participate in a global hackathon to help with a number of challenges put forth to the community. The list of topics runs the gamut from an HTML 5 app to bring Earth Science data to citizen scientists to the development of a low-cost space guidance system.

There will be hosted events around the world on all seven continents including McMurdo Station on Antarctica and the International Space Station. If you can’t make it to one of the listed event locations, you can participate from the comfort of your home! So, if you’re still looking for something to do this weekend, why not participate in the International Space Apps Challenge and work on something out of this world?
